How Fat Loss Got Started

How My Newsletter and Fat Loss Over 40 Program Got Started

I went to put on my dress...I’ll never forget the day I ran to my closet to dress for a party. As usual, I had spent time getting the kids dressed and everything else ready to go, and leftmyself not enough time to get ready. I pulled out my favorite dress and slipped it over my head.

You’ll never guess; I could barely get the dress on, let alone do up the zipper.

Well, I just about sat down right there and cried. I vowed to myself at that moment that I would turn this weight problem around, whatever it took.

Naturally, I thought that being by a doctor, I was well equipped to handle the problem, and I would know just what to do. I figured that all I lacked was will power, and true intention.

I was wrong, wrong, and wrong. I struck out on all counts.

You may have done this too; I struggled with diets of all types, and many exercise programs. I lost a bit here and there, and gained it back again after a little while. I tried different exercise programs, and struggled through the sore muscles, only to quit a few weeks later. With so many family and professional responsibilities, it was just too much.

Finally, I hit on some keys to success. I began studying with a teacher who taught me about how to change my thinking about weight loss. I learned to like myself and respect my body. I learned that whatever I did, it had to be done in a friendly way with my body, and mind.

Zipper won't close! That wasn’t all; I had to respect my values, and all my other commitments in life too. I learned that nature works in its own wonderful ways, and in order to lose weight for good, I needed to respect that.

Just so you know, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Not by a long shot. I’m grateful that my teacher was there to guide me through the rough spots, to show me how making changes can be easy, even when you have plenty of resistance inside.

He gently showed me how I had to become a new person.

Two years later, I began teaching women who came to my clinic what I had learned about weight loss. I worked with them one-on-one, just like a typical doctor visit. They loved what we did together, and they reaped tremendous benefits.

But I wasn’t completely satisfied.

I was never able to teach all the nuts and bolts of what I understood about weight loss. The demands of running a clinic, and a family, put a tremendous strain on me. Weight loss wasn’t the sole function of the clinic, and I couldn’t work in that area all the time.

There were other people who needed help too. After struggling with this problem for two years, one woman I worked very closely with said, “You have to start teaching your weight loss program to more women!” She insisted that I make a program that would meet the needs of many other women at a distance.

So this is how I got started.

I’ve begun putting all my material together and there is so much stuff that it’s impossible to put it all in a book or a few audio CDs.

One of the things I learned about weight loss was not to dump a load of information on someone all at once. Too much gets lost in the shuffle.

I know from my own experience that you need information in bite-sized chunks you can actually use.

You need to be exposed to it month after month.

Then it’s much easier to get started and continue to learn and apply the lessons that will help you.

This is not a “pick it up and put it down” weight loss program.

This program will help you change on the inside aswell as change on the outside.

You want to make these changes permanent, so you need encouragement when the going gets tough. Just

like I got.

I’m here to do just that.

I’m really pleased to be able to share everything I know about weight loss, and all that I am with you. I look forward to witnessing the changes you make, inside and out, and to celebrating your success with you.

My teacher once said, “It’s only through sharing with others that the true joy of one’s success can be experienced.”

We’re in this world to make each others dreams come true, and share the success. Let me enjoy yours!

Love and Gratitude,

Dr. Elin Ritchie MD
